What are health insurance plans?

Health insurance plans reimburse insured individuals for their medical expenses, including expenses incurred due to surgery, hospitalization, treatment, injury, illness or accident. In the case of a health insurance claim settlement, the insurance benefits are paid by the insurance company in accordance with the terms and conditions of the policy document.

In other words, the health insurance policy is a contract between the health insurance policy and the health insurance company, and the former member agrees to make a specific payment / compensation for medical expenses in the event of illness and hospitalization. In most cases, health insurance companies are allied with hospitals, and the insured, known as network hospitals, can get treatment for less than a penny.

1. Personal health insurance plans

As the name implies, personal health insurance plans offer coverage for surgery and hospital expenses to the insured on an individual basis. Coverage includes expenses related to pre-hospitalization and post-hospitalization, in-patient hospitalization, medications, etc. Up to the sum insured. Many individual health insurance plans offer other facilities too like daily cash benefits but that depends on the terms and conditions of the policy. With an individual health insurance policy, the insured can avail cashless as well as reimbursement treatment facility.

2. Family Health Insurance Plans

Family health insurance plans offer coverage for all family members. This means that the proponent can include their partner, children, parents, father-in-law and other dependent members by paying a single health insurance premium. In terms of coverage, a family health insurance policy is similar to an individual health insurance policy. A family floater insurance policy is a good option because it brings the whole family under one umbrella, thereby reducing the risk of having to pay the insured amount.

3. Health insurance plans for senior citizens

Senior Civil Insurance Plans are specifically designed for people over 60 years of age. Due to the wide coverage, these plans come at a high premium. But by availing tax benefits under Section 80D of the Income Tax Act, you can always save tax on health insurance so that the insured can reduce his financial burden. For seniors, it is best to opt for a senior citizen health insurance policy as this will help keep them stress-free for years to come.

4. Women's health insurance plans

Women need medical care at various stages of their lives, for which they need health insurance plans designed specifically for them. There are several health insurance plans on the market that offer not only women's health care but also financial security. General benefits covered under women-specific health insurance plans include maternity care, hospitalization coverage, critical illness coverage, and neonatal coverage.

5. Children's health insurance plans

Child health insurance plans offer children appropriate cover at affordable health insurance premiums. But only when one of the parents is included in the same health insurance plan can one person personally protect the minor. Children's specific health insurance policies offer benefits such as health care coverage, cashless hospitalization, specialist consultation, immunizations, and ambulance charges.

6. Serious Disease Insurance Plans

Serious illness insurance policies are permanent benefit policies that cover life-threatening diseases such as cancer, heart attack, stroke, and kidney failure. Under these policies, the insured will receive a pre-determined amount to diagnose any serious illness specified in the policy document. The insured can use the amount at his / her discretion in India or abroad for medical treatment, recovery expenses or repayment of debts if taken.

7. Disease-specific health insurance plans

Disease-specific health insurance policies cover specific illnesses. For example, a disease-based policy for dengue, diabetes, etc. is recommended in conjunction with a standard health insurance plan because it covers diseases at all stages regardless of whether the current illness is inactive or serious. Unlike regular health insurance policies, these plans do not come with long waiting periods. Disease-specific health insurance plans are no substitute for regular health insurance policies.
